Job Description: 5th grade teacher

Cherry Drive is awesome! I've been here two years, and I love it. Before teaching here I spent my first year in Colorado working at a local daycare and tutoring center. Prior to that I taught sixth grade in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. If you're wondering where that is, it's just past Raleigh on the way to the coast. You know, the part you want to drive through really fast . ;) I wasn't born there though. I actually come from Fort Wayne, Indiana. My parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins twice removed, and the cat all still live there. I miss them a lot, but I love Colorado!

I attended Valparaiso University where snow, sleet, snow, rain, snow, tornados, snow, and general tundra like weather never cancels classes. It was a great experience, and I made some lifelong friends. My undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education with an endorsement in reading. Currently I'm working on my Master's in Special Education at CU Denver. I'll be quite busy the next three years!

My favorite subject to teach is writing. It's also the hardest. I love when students come forward with the most wonderfully imaginative ideas. Kids are so creative. They surprise me every day.

When I'm not at school. . . .wait, I'm always at school. There's a cot in the closet that I pull out and sleep on at night. Just kidding. My favorite non-school activity is spending time with my friends. I currently live with two girls I went to college with. They're both teachers as well, (music though), so we have a lot of similar stories! There's also a dog and a cat in the house, so it's never dull. When I can, I love to pick up a good book or maybe write my own. When I'm stressed, I just lace up the running shoes and take it out on the pavement. Good times are had by all.
